The Pharma Sales Interview Breakthrough Blog
As this year comes to a close, it's always nice to take time to reflect on what transpired in 2017 from a work perspective, and to take inventory of your progress against professional and personal goals.
I think something that I have to keep in mind is that the organization I work for is not responsible or even interested in my professional development. I mean, they want my work for them to be an all consuming endeavor...but ultimately...if I am unhappy, I need to identify the avenues that fulfill that professional drive beyond my 8-5.
I write a little about this in my book...but there are a about 128 hours in a week that exist beyond the 40 hours you work.
What are you doing with those hours?
How are those hours satisfying your inner drive?
Does the lack of development beyond your job translate into professional frustration?
Could dedicated development during those 128 hours translate into a more fulfilling work week?
I don't know that answer to these questions - but I think it's important to ask yourself these questions and evaluate how you invest that time. Of course, some of it is filled with time at the gym, grocery shopping, family, volunteer work, other interests. Those are all important. But, what about other business interests? What about classes at night to help you pivot into the next phase of your career in your current field...or a completely different line of work?
Give it some thought. As Abe Lincoln said, "Give me 6 hours to chop down a tree, and I will spend 4 hours sharpening the ax." Take some time sharpening your ax before you dig into 2018.
Happy New Year everyone! Be safe.
