Keep in mind, people may "like" you...you may build reportiore...but people LOVE themselves. Build REAL engagement by being interested in them...and stop trying to be interesting.
Approach your engagements that way, and people will walk away from an interaction with you with an appreciation for how you connected with them on a deeper level.
